Support Crews
All teams, whether 2 or 3 person, are required to have a support crew of at least one person. Each support crew is limited to one vehicle suitable for transporting all team members and equipment, including your bikes and boat, at one time. Pickup trucks, SUVs, Subaru Outbacks (or similar) and vans (preferably with a wizard airbushed on the side) are commonly used as support vehicles.
While it is recommended, it is not necessary that your support crew be able to load and unload equipment as racers are allowed to do this themselves when meeting their Support Crew in designated Transition Areas.
4WD vehicles are not required although your Support Crew may encounter conditions not suitable for a 2WD vehicle if they have to drive to a more remote section of the course to pick you up in the event that your team is forced to withdraw from the race.
Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge
Teams competing in the Upstate Adventure Race may also be eligible to win a free entry to the 2008 Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge including round trip airfare for four from the US to Abu Dhabi. To be eligible, your team must compete in the Coed Elite division and include no more than one (1) racer that has competed in any adventure race outside of North America. The prize will be awarded to the highest ranked team in the Coed Elite division that meets this requirement.
More soup for you
At the North Georgia Adventure Race in March of 2006 Checkpoint Zero began what has now become a tradition...the soup kitchen. Ok, it's just a propane-powered turkey fryer, but it works. It'll be back again this year at an undisclosed location on one of the more lonely and remote sections of the course. Precisely when you need it most, we'll be there with hot soup to keep you going!
Online Coverage
Friends and family will be able to follow your progress online from home. We will be using Checkpoint Tracker to deliver realtime GPS tracking, a leaderboard, team profiles, race blog, photos and more during the race right from the course.
The following team and individual gear is mandatory. All racers and/or teams will be required to present items from this list at various undisclosed locations on the course. Failure to produce required gear when asked by race staff or volunteers will result in a time penalty and/or disqualification as specified in the offical race rules which will be provided to all teams at the pre-race briefing.

What is the cancellation policy?
Team entries may be cancelled up until September 31, 2008 for a refund of $100 per racer. After September 31, 2008, no refunds will be granted. You may sell or transfer your entry to another team up until September 31, 2008 at no cost, although you must contact race management for confirmation of the change.
Why do I only get back $100 per racer if my team cancels?
Because we may not be able to resell your entry. Please be sure you intend to race before you register. Remember that you are free to sell your entry at full price through September 31, 2008.
Will boats be provided?
No. Each team is required to provide a single canoe in which all team members will travel during any and all paddling legs.
How does a team qualify for the Masters division?
When the combined ages of all 3 racers on a team equals or exceeds 120 years, that team will be eligible to compete in the Masters division.
