Peter Jolles - Team Captain

Peter has been competeing athletically since he was 10 years old. He started in cross country skiing, moving on to running, then biking, ultimately combining these in adventure racing. Peter placed second in the 2006 Source Burn 24 hour mountian bike race solo category, and second over all in the 2006 Ranger Run duathalon. He has competed in adventure races across the south east as well as endurance runing and mountain biking events across the country.

Jon Barker - The Godfather

Founding father and retired captain. Raced a bunch; won a few, lost a lot. Nowadays, orienteering, rogaining, running, paddling, watching TV and hanging out with former support Goddess Diane and the little brown doggies.

Paul Cox - The Crooner

Paul is an Atlanta-based endurance athlete with wins at numerous races from one-day events to the 300+-mile Florida Coast to Coast expedition race. He's a is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School and former trip leader for middle-schoolers through the Sierra Club's Inner City Outings program. Paul hopes he can continue to get others involved in outdoor sports, especially his 6-year-old son, Henry, who's now on the Checkpoint Zero support crew! In 2007, Paul looks forward to another full year of racing with his Checkpoint Zero buddies and paddling in events across the Southeast.

Michele Hobson

Michele grew up playing sports such as basketball and soccer from the second grade until completing college. After attending Winthrop University on a basketball scholarship, she started competing in triathlons followed by a few years participating in mountain bike races. Since she started adventure racing in 2001, she has placed first in the Odyssey Mega Dose and One-day Extreme Races, Save the World, Asheville Mountain Sports Festival, and the Blue Ridge Adventure Race.

Allen McAdams - Resident "Zoid"

Allen, aka "Zoid" is a former jack-of-all trades in the athletic world, having competed in sports ranging from cross-country to triathlon. Since 1995, he has placed first in races such as the Smoky Mountain Adventure Race, The Blue Ridge Adventure Race, Swamp Stomp and Save the World. Additionally, Allen has finished in the top five at races such as Florida Coast to Coast and the USARA National Championships. Allen, even with his less than appealing countenance, is married to Melissa and has a magnificent daughter named Emiliy who could out run her Dad-even on a bad day.

Jennifer Rinderle

Taking ballet and gymnastics growing up never satisfied Jennifer's urge for adventure. In college, she began mountain biking and trail running, developing a passion for outdoor pursuits. Jennifer began adventure racing in 1999 with a Balance Bar sprint race in Winder, GA and was hooked from the very beginning. Primal Quest Utah in 2006 is her longest expedition to date. To support her adventure racing habit, Jennifer and her husband Ed work at Chick-fil-A's corporate office in Atlanta. Her job requires travel, so Jennifer is always searching for new trails to run or mountains to climb whenever she's on the road.

Hunter Orvis - The Freshman

Endurance athlete, college student, Checkpoint Zero whipping boy...all great descriptions of Hunter. After completing the 2004 Balance Bar Sprint, he jumped into the deep end by racing at the vicious 2005 North Georgia Adventure Race and hasn't looked back since. More impressive than his myriad podium finishes are his spectacular failures. Two botched attempts to run the entire Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail in under 24 hours, a first place in the Stump-Jump 55k (it was supposed to be a 50k), and dozens of other "agonies of defeat" round out his resume.

Paul "Yak" Angell

"Nothing in the world can take place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

     -- Calvin Coolidge

"Amen to that!!!"

imagine being out on a long run or ride, or being in the gym. you fill up your water bottle and drop in a couple of nuun tabs. by the time you've tied your laces or put on your pack, you've got a complex electrolyte drink that recharges your salts, but is refreshing and more efficiently absorbed than water alone or most sports drinks on the market.
