Montana's Gallatin -- The Not-So-Lazy River

This morning, Southwest Montana's Gallatin River looks kinda like an amusement park lazy river gone insane, then taken over by an Ovaltine publicity stunt. The water is huge, fast, ice cold, creepily brown, and probably does has more vitamins and minerals sloshing around in there than Nesquik. I predict you will not hear any Primal Quest athletes utter the phrase, "More Ovaltine Please!" This is pure discomfort.Merrell/Zanfel Adventure and Canadian team PeakAdventure.com , seen in the photo at right, were in the lead when I saw them along Highway 191, and teams Nike and DART/nuun were just minutes behind the leaders.
There's a race for first going on now that didn't seem to matter as much yesterday, since all teams knew they were going to be forced to wait for daylight this morning to get on the river. Kinda feels like the real race just started, and that yesterday was an exercise in spreading the teams out. A 12-hour exercise if your team was fast. A soon-to-be 24-hour exercise for teams still not in to TA 2.
