DART/nuun Support Truck Envy
posted Sunday, June 22, 2008 by Mike Bitton @ 11:14 PM - 0 comments

Ryan Flemming (pictured), one of three support personnel for Seattle-based adventure racing team DART/nuun, cobbled together a jaw-dropping design for the innards of his team's rental support truck. "I had it parked down by the lake during water skills testing, and everybody who walked by took long looks." I bet. There's definate danger of support truck envy at Primal Quest Montana! Each athlete has their own corner in the back of the moving van, so they'll never have to be out in the elements. Pretty posh digs! The lucky DART/nuun adventure racers on the course this year are Cyril Jay-Rayon, Aaron Matzke, Aaron Rinn, and Mari Chandler.

Just before the truck tour, I got to chat with Tim Moxy, the founder of nuun active hydration, who's on site to take in the splendors of Southwest Montana. His business was based on the notion that it may be possible to separate hydration/electrolyte replacement from nutrition/calorie intake, and the world of endurance sports has latched on to his creation. Read the details about how nuun works here.

Moxy has added a line of vitamin-fortified nuun, called nuun U, to the traditional nuun offerings. The newcomers have classy-sounding combination names like "goji berry green tea," "lemon chai" and "tangerine ginger." Moxy described nuun U as the company's "yoga flavors." I'd heard of these, but had yet to see them. Now I have a tube of each to try out! Moxy said there's also a new orange ginger flavor of traditional formula nuun, and that athletes are discovering Big nuun, larger nuun tablets designed for use in backpack hydration systems.
