Dart-nuun Wins Final Race of the 2007 Big Blue Adventure Race Series

Saturday September 22th, Lake Tahoe, California - Adventure Racing Team DART-nuun, comprised of Glenn Rogers, Mari Chandler, and Ryan VanGorder win the Tahoe Big Blue Adventure Race. The team was greeted with snow, sleet, rain and thunderstorms during this challenging race. Once again, Seventh Wave Productions produced a well organize race together with a difficult course. â??We were hoping to come down and race in a warm climate during Lake Tahoeâ??s famous Indian summer. But we were surprised to learn that it had been snowing on the courseâ?? commented Glenn.

The race started with a short run from Tahoe City to the kayak transition area at Lake Forest Park. The teams were warned before the race that thunderstorms might cause the kayak section to be shortened. Sure enough, once the teams had been on the water for 30 minutes, they were all ordered back to the transition area. â??Race management made a good call in shortening the kayak.â?? commented Ryan, â??Lightening started touching down all around usâ??. While teams were waiting for the restart, they were treated to an intense hail and rainstorm that would last for the balance of the race.

All teams started en masse on their bikes at the restart for what would prove to be the most difficult and challenging part of the race. Teams covered 25 miles and 5,000 feet of climbing on double track, single track, and fire roads that were covered with up to 3 inches of snow. â??This was just like our winter riding up in Washingtonâ?? Glenn said at the end of the race. The bike checkpoints could be obtained in any order. â??During the race teams were going in every direction and it was impossible to know how we were doingâ?? commented Mari, â??We just stuck to our plan and pushed each other without regard to the other teams around us.â??

That strategy paid off as the team reached the remote trekking area and learned that they were doing well. At this point, the team was required to obtain on foot, 8 of 11 controls in any order. The trek was rather quick and they were able to get the 8 controls and get back on their bikes for the ride back to the transition area. After the final transition, the team ran to the finish line in first place finishing in approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes.

What's next for DART-nuun? You can catch them in Potosi, Missouri for the USARA National Championship where they will try and capture the national title.
