DART-nuun teaches Intro to Compass Navigation

Wednesday July 25th, 2007 - DART-nuun adventure racing team members Matt Hart, Ryan VanGorder and Aaron Rinn taught 'Intro to Compass Navigation' at the REI in Seattle as part of the Seattle Flagship Clinics and Events calendar. The class covered Map and Compass basics, setting and taking bearings, triangulation, declination and route finding strategies.

"This is not only a great way to empower individuals to make good decisions in the wilderness but to also a good way to get people interested in being outside more often and enjoy nature," explained VanGorder who has taught the class for over three years now.

Class sizes range from 10 to 40 individuals and are usually made up of hikers, climbers and outdoor enthusiast looking to increase their awareness of the outdoors and not get lost on weekend excursions. As part of the teams effort to get their sponsor's messages and products into the community the Seattle based adventure racing team can be found teaching navigation clinics up to four times a year from Alderwood to Portland and in venues such as REI and Seattle based Second Ascent.
