DART-nuun Wins Baja Travesia!

Friday, March 30, 2007 9:11AM (Pacific Time) from the an Internet Cafe in San Felipe, Mexico, the Baja Peninsula. On the Sea of Cortez.

Quick Note: Last night after 60hrs and 35mins, at 8:35PM DART-nuun comes into the finish line 24hrs ahead of the rest of the field! DART-nuun-NWkayak, after a introspective pow-wow at the top of a 2400 fully commited canyon decided enough was enough and pulled out.

Report: At the last minute, upon arriving in San Felipe, the amazing and intreped support person, Tyler Patterson, realized that the race organizers had not transported DART-nuun´s kayak to the start of the last kayak leg. Tyler was expecting them any minute. Driving through town over and over again Tyler finally found this reporter having a beer, he couldn´t call me for lack of service. Tyler screeched to a hault ordered me in the car and we mounted our own transport of the kayak to the put in. This was shortly after Tyler had been hauled off to the police station and escaped minus 400 pesos. After getting the kayak 12k out to the put in we awaited the team.

That evening at around 8PM we finally visualized the blinking strobe of the team coming across the bay of San Felipe to the finish. After decending a 2400m (6800ft) canyon, driving a auto rally course and running 10K across some of the bleakest desert in Mexico, the team was arriving! With the night life of San Felipe bumping to club music and flashing with neon behind the finish line the team beach the boat and trugged excitedly, if that can be done, up the beach to be greated by the race directors, DART-nuun-NWkayak, several spectators, and the mexaican night life.

Champagne spraying DART-nuun celebrated thier second Championship at the Baja Travesia!

After the celebration we took them to our room, out of thier wet cloths, showered and then back out to fill thier bellies with burritos, tacos and beers.

Everyone on both teams are in good shape. Many suffer from multiple abrassions, lacerations and bruising. But, nothing they haven´t delt with before :)

I will update you with more later on the Special Adventures of DART-nuun-NWkayak and many great pictures. I will try to get them on today, keep checking back.
