Holding Down the Fort

What's up this week? We'll my mates are all over the globe with me holding down HQ here in Colorado.

Sully flew out last Thursday to Brazil as a hired gun for Team Sole as they race at EcoMotion www.ecomotion.com.br/ The team looks like they got 4th down there as teams are finishing what appears to be a very wet race. Next year this race will constitute the World Championships of Adventure Racing.

Jon & Jari flew out Saturday to Annecy, France world HQ's for Salomon Sports. They're over there doing some photo shoots, and modeling of next year's gear. This is a gear junkie's dream! Rumor has it they were going to do a day of skiing at La Clusza!

Check back later next week for updates from France & Brazil as the team heads back to Gunnison County! For current conditions in Gunnison County check out the photo. We've had two recent snow storms depositing over 10" both times above 10,200 feet! Its ski time!!

what a weekend

So now that I had a bit of fun this weekend it is time to get serious and down to business. You can check it out on grannygear.com. I have faith that you can negotiate the web site to get the real time results of me biking the 24 hours of Moab this weekend. Should be a great time. And by that I mean hard and hard and a bit harder. I'll catch you next week when I have energy again.

Jari's thursday morning

Goooodddd Morning!!!!

What a weekend! I finally have spare energy today. I forget how much it takes to keep my body going for 72 hours strait. Well I mean I know that it takes 250 calories an hour so that would be 18,000 calories to keep me going during the race but I forget how tired I am for a few days afterwards. So today I finally have energy. So much so that I am going to go swim and run. I know, I know. I am one wild and crazy girl.

Actually I am going to a white trash party tonight that will be soooo much fun. Come back on saturday and I will put some pictures up.

Back to the race, I think that my best moment was the sunset while we were in the La Sals and we were cresting a pass at 12,034 (and yes this is the exact elevation, I still have the map) and the sky was lit up in the most beautiful reds and yellows and you could see forever. You could see west past the mountians into the desert and it just took my breath away. Although maybe that was because the wind was blowing about 50 mph. However...it was fantastic.

Winners of the Adventure Xtreme- Moab Expedition

This past weekend Team Salomon/Crested Butte secured two of our seasons goals by winning the Adventure Xtreme overall series title and placing first in the season finale, Moab Xtreme Expedition race! After winning four out of five races in the series up to this point, we were motivated to crush the Expedition race.

The race started and finished along the shores of the Colorado River at the Red Cliffs Lodge (think PQ 2006 folks). With a noon Thursday start time the weather this time of the year was not a factor until late Friday night. At this point a weather system moved in and the winds picked up to 35-60 MPH, and the team found ourselves running knife edge ridge tops along the Maniti- La Sal mountain range picking off check points in the dark. Dressed head to toe in down jackets, hats, gloves and head lamps it was hard to tell if we were dressed for Winter in Crested Butte, CO or if we were really in Moab, UT.

After four days of racing over 300+ miles, with nearly 32,000 feet of elevation gain Team Salomon/Crested Butte was the only four person team to complete the entire course. (The rest of the competition was short coursed to an abbreviated route in order to get to the finish line). Another testament to the team's chemistry, fortitude, and horsepower that we have developed.

Dare I say its time to finally start focusing on the COSMIC Ski Mountaineering Series! There is snow up high around the Crested Butte Mountains!!
