Is Primal Quest heading to Montana?

Who knows. Speculation is rampant. Anybody that thinks they know with any degree of certainty is full of it.

The one thing we know for sure is that either Montana is in fact in the running or race management is going to great lengths to sew disinformation. I say that after having read an article at BillingsGazette.com.

Organizer Don Mann plans to meet with state officials and resorts in Big Sky and Whitefish during a visit to Montana Aug. 7 and 8.

So what happened to the race that was going to compete with PQ in the Spring? That seemed to be all the hype about two months ago...along with a note saying it would be officially announced with a website by mid July. Almost August now.....

Wow, I'm really surprised the location hasn't been finalized by now. From my past experience a permit takes a min of 3 months to get through the USFS. With such a high profile event as PQ, I thought they would have at least had the location picked.

Quote: "Mann said Montana is the front-runner among organizers."

Might seem like a good bet. I've never been to Montana before, anyone need a a 4th teammate?

I do believed I called it- recall that I suggested the organizers of the MAR blast the email boards because the PQ might be there...oh it's so lonely at the top...

Montana is a great spot, I hope PQ goes there.

Still seems strange that PQ announced the date but they don't really have a location pinned down.

If PQ does (or doesn't) go to Montana, racers may want to consider Chris & George's race. http://www.mountainar.com/

After doing the MAR there earlier this month. I can say it is a great location for racing. Easily a top five race loaction for me. Beat Moab by a long shot. If it is true, start doing ton more hills (ok mountains)in your training.

PQ staff better get a clue FAST! If they don't know where they are headed yet, the race will be a cluster (insert expletive)!

How are they going to set up a course, test it, and get it permited in the snow.

Looks like the "good old days" of winging-it, Odysee style. Not too sure that is a good idea.

From the last comment, Yak has some explaining to do about the "mystery race" that is going to be in Canada next year. "Announcement is coming mid-July" and "announcemnt is coming soon" never happened. Maybe they didn't know where they were going for a location either!

At least I know Ironman will be in Hawaii. Time to train.

Interesting story, but do you think Don Mann would let so much detail leak this early?

Last week I was at the Tamarack resort in Idaho vacationing with my family and you couldn't miss the Primal Quest people running around with bikes and boats and working on maps every morning at breakfast. If you've ever been up there you'd know the McCall area would be a perfect location for a full on expedition race.
